The Cook Islands
is an authentic and refined Pacific
experience encased in a lifestyle that
exudes warmth, happiness and respect.
Consisting of 15 islands scattered over
some 2 million square kilometres of the
Pacific Ocean, the Cook Islands lie in the
centre of the Polynesian Triangle with
Tonga and Samoa to the west and Tahiti to
the right.
The capital, Avarua, and the
international airport are located on the
main island of Rarotonga. Rarotonga is
dominated by high mountain peaks and lush
forests which provide a dramatic backdrop
to the palm-fringed white sand beaches.
The island is almost completely encircled
by a turquoise lagoon and fringing reef
which is perfect for swimming, snorkelling
and kayaking.
Rarotonga boasts a wide range of
accommodation from resort-style hotels to
boutique villas and being just 32km in
circumference, visitors have the freedom
to explore the island at their own pace.
Hire a scooter, take in some activities,
or dine out at one of the many restaurants
dotted around the island.
A visit to the Cook Islands is not
complete without seeing the beautiful
island of Aitutaki, a 50 minute flight
north of Rarotonga. This is a place of
unsurpassed natural beauty and tranquility
with its brilliant white beaches and
breathtaking lagoon that sparkles in a
myriad of shades of turquoise. A minimum
stay of 3 days is recommended to truly
appreciate its beauty and a Lagoon Cruise
is a must for any visitor. You will find a
variety of accommodation options, an
assortment of shops, and a number of
restaurants and bars.
For a bit of adventure or something off
the beaten track, the outer islands of
Atiu and Mangaia offer a step back in time
and an opportunity to gently immerse
yourself in the culture and people of the
Cook Islands.
The Cook Islands is proud of its rich
culture and unhurried lifestyle with a
strong focus on welcoming visitors. You
will find the hospitality warm and
spontaneous, the music and dance
exuberant, and the mood relaxed.
Take time out from the everyday and step
into the Cook Islands for a truly unique
and memorable holiday.
